Today’s events become tomorrow’s history and the time to record that history is as it is happening. June 30, 2006 an unprecedented tragedy struck the Portage Valley. A south-bound Norfolk-Southern train derailed and dumped thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals into the Sinnemahoning Portage Creek. That amazing creek was home to more than just fish and insects. It was home to crayfish, frogs and salamanders. There were also ducks and herons and other wild animals that depended on those fish for food … These pages are dedicated to documenting this tragedy as best as we can so everyone can appreciate the significance of horrible accident. We will post here every piece of information we can find about this devastating accident. May such a thing never happen again ... |
